I'm a teacher, too, and I've seen lots more boys struggle at Elementary than girls. I think you're headed in the right direction with your research - it'll help a lot of educators.
Have you been teaching for a long time? You seem quite well versed with teaching methods.
Yes I have been teaching for nearly 11 years :)) ever since I graduated.
Hopefully I will find some answers through my research.
11 years is a very long time :) This is my 3rd year so I have a lot to learn still.
All the best for your research!
Thanks :)
Great idea! I teach at the high school level and by the time they get to me, many are very difficult to reach. I am a strong believer in the idea that what they learn in the beginning stages of their educational career determines a large part of how they progress through the end.
Your plan discusses the data that you will collect, but do you have any ideas yet about what tactics you will use to motivate these students? I know you will address this as the action research begins, but you might want to identify a few to get yourself started.
Thanks for the suggestion but I have already started some strategies in my own classroom among the struggling boys and see results. I have been also reading some neat books. One of them is by Kathleen Palmer " Teaching boys who struggle in Schools". And now through Action Research I will be able to share with others :))
Great topic of research. I'm also interested to see how your parental involvement strategies work and if they have any effect on the boys' behaviors at school.
